			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Gulf Islands provides some excellent protected ocean sailing. Even on a dull, quiet day like the one here (Round Saltspring 2010).</p>
<p>Leading the first start out of Ganges Harbour, the ocean racer, Icon dwarfs the other &#8220;big boats&#8221;. <em>Icon</em> is a Perry 66 with a -69 handicap. Right this minute, it&#8217;s the first boat to have rounded Swiftsure Bank in the 2010 Swiftsure Lightship Classic.</p>
<p>Also in the Swiftsure, the multihull <em>Dragonfly</em> blasted back into Victoria at 20 knots.</p>

<p>The photo was taken through the window of one of <a href="http://www.saltspringair.com/">Saltspring Air</a>&#8216;s venerable Beaver float planes on the 7 min flight from Maple Bay to Ganges. While shooting through plexiglass is not recommended for great photos, high shutter speed and a contrast increase in post production can yield acceptable results. Particularly for the web.</p>
